The trailhead begins at the parking area. Singletrack trail with some sandy patches and short hike-a-bike sections due to very large rocks. There are 3 places to cross the river and continue along the other side. At these crossings the water is waist deep and you'll have to carry your bike overhead. The river crossings are easy in slow moving water. The river bottom is plainly visible.

Beware, this trail is mainly used by hikers and some portions by horseback riders. Across Sandia Creek Road is a small lake with a sandy beach. You can rest here and even go for a swim. There is a huge tree with a rope to swing from and launch into the water.
