Tamarack Rock is an unusual andesite prominence on Surveyors Ridge, officially nameless but annointed by the Oregon Hikers community in honor of the aged, weather beaten "tamarack", or western larch, at its summit. The outcropping is right next to the Surveyors Ridge Trail but also very close to Forest Road 17 and has thus become home to a few small 'monuments' on its crest. There are excellent views from the summit and, to make more of a hike out of the approach, you can start the outing by beginning near Brooks Meadow .
