Beekman Woods Loop Hike

Overview

The Beekman Bank, established in 1857 on California and 3rd streets in Jacksonville, was Oregon’s second banking house. The bank’s founder, Cornelius Beekman, purchased gold from local miners and shipped it to the U.S. Mint. Between 1870 and 1876, Beekman built the house you see today on California Street and Laurelwood Drive. The house became a living history museum in 1996, and the forested slopes behind it became part of the Jacksonville Woodlands in 1990. The one-mile Beekman Canyon Loop connects with the 0.3 mile Woods Grove Trail, the latter winding down the slopes of a different land purchase.
