Burlington Creek Loop Hike

Overview

A 1995 bond measure funded Metro purchases of four parcels of forest land, logged in the early 1990s, in the North Tualatin Mountains. The 339-acre Burlington Creek property is right off of McNamee Road and not far south of Cornelius Pass Road. You’re hiking entirely on gravel maintenance roads, with limited views north across Sauvie Island from a couple of vantage points. The loop road crosses a corner of the Forest Park Conservancy’s 38-acre Ancient Forest Preserve, purchased in 1990, where tall Douglas-firs and hemlocks host a bald eagle nest that is used every year. There is a short loop trail into the old-growth forest, but you can only access it after the bald eagles have departed, usually in early summer.
