Leiffer Loop Hike

Overview

This rather obscure loop in the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park has far less foot traffic than the nearby Simpson Reed Grove , whose packed parking areas you’ll have to drive by. Also, you’ll be away from the highway and the sound of traffic. This lush redwood forest is on a slope that extends down to the Smith River, and the short loops here honor donations in memory of Don Leiffer and Lincoln and Mary Ellsworth among others. While there’s a shorter option all on trails, this loop described involves a return walk along narrow Walker Road. The first section of the Leiffer Trail is wheelchair accessible.
