Imnaha Divide Loop Hike

Overview

The Imnaha Divide is a high alpine ridge which separates the Big Sheep Creek and Imnaha River drainages, specifically the Middle Fork of the the former and the North Fork of the latter. This big loop takes you up one drainage and down the other, with the opportunity to visit small mountain lakes and gather in stupendous views. These will improve if you spend more than one night and attempt one or all of the peaks at the top end of the loop, Petes Point , Dollar Ridge , and Aneroid Mountain . Mount Nebo is also not far off the trail. You'll begin on a fake "wagon route", constructed in the early 20th century by the brothers Wilkes and Daniel Tripp, who salted a claim in the upper North Fork Imnaha River drainage, brought in equipment, and sold stocks for the enterprise, touting a non-existent “townsite” and other amenities.
