The Hells Canyon National Recreation Area in Oregon includes a number of long north-south ridges, many of them carrying trails that offer far-reaching views for most of their length. One such spine, Haas Ridge, runs for over 20 miles from Summit Ridge near Hat Point all the way to the Imnaha River. The ridge drops to the deep valleys of Lightning Creek on the east and Horse Creek to the west. Most people will begin this hike at the Hat Point Road (FR 4240) junction with FR 4240-345, and you will hike a rutted road for two miles until you reach a corral , beyond which vehicles are not permitted. Those with lots of clearance and power, 4WD, and experience ploughing mud, especially in the spring, could drive to the corral and begin the hike there.
