Erma Bell Lakes Loop Hike

Overview

This hike in the far southwestern corner of the Three Sisters Wilderness has no views but offers significant reward for the effort because of the gentle grades and local scenery: lush forest and small meadows, wildflowers in late spring and early summer, a series of mountain lakes stocked with trout, and cascading waterfalls. As such, it is a very popular destination for overnight campers and families with kids. However the loop option using the Williams Lake Trail, which is far less trafficked, steers you away from crowds. The Erma Bell Lakes area was added to the Three Sisters Wilderness under the Oregon Wilderness Act of 1984. Note that a Central Cascades Wilderness permit is needed for overnight camping. Also, the wildflower season (June through August) coincides with clouds of ravenous mosquitoes, so you’ll definitely need to bring insect repellant and a head net!
