Diamond Lake Loop Hike

Overview

A long walk on a paved bike path doesn’t seem very prepossessing to most hikers, and yet this loop on level terrain around Diamond Lake offers ample reward. In addition to enjoying views over the sparkling waters of the lake, you’ll get numerous sightings of Mount Bailey , Mount Thielsen , and Mount Scott . Old growth trees on the west and north shores tower above, and marshes on the south and northwest shores of the lake support a variety of plant and animal life. Much of the lakeshore is taken up with campgrounds, lodging, and private cabins, which all have easy access to the trail. The most picturesque stretches are the north and south shores. On the west shore, the path follows the forested lower slopes of Mount Bailey to avoid a development of vacation homes. On the east shore, you’ll be walking through the long, strung out Diamond Lake Campground. This is also a great snowshoe/cross-country ski loop in winter.
