The eastern terminus of the 53.7-mile Boundary Trail, once the border between the former Rainier and Columbia National Forests, is one mile east of Council Lake on Babyshoe Ridge. You’ll be hiking a short section of the trail, actually an extremely rutted old road bed that is also open to dirt bikes and mountain bikes. Then you’ll peel off the Boundary Trail onto a hiker-only trail that takes you to the top of Council Bluff , where there are magnificent views to Mount Rainier , Goat Rocks, Mount Adams , and Mount Hood as well as much of the northern part of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.
