Boy Scout Tree Hike

Overview

A hike in old-growth coast redwood forest that ends at a pretty splashing veil waterfall, this outing immerses you in the grandeur of the majestic trees out of hearing from busy highways. (The trail is wholly within the Redwood Heritage State Wilderness.) There are big redwoods beginning at the trailhead, but the star of the forest (this section is known as the Metcalf Grove) is the Boy Scout Tree , a double-trunked 23 ¼ foot in diameter behemoth about 240 feet in height. You’ll end the hike a little farther on, at Fern Falls , right on the western boundary of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park.
