This section of Segment 4 of the North Fork Trail along the North Fork Middle Fork Willamette River was completed around 2012. About four and a half miles of trail were finished leading west from FR 1939 past Buffalo Rock . Unfortunately, the trail construction didn’t reach a western trailhead, and so must remain an out and back venture. Perhaps because of this, the trail seems to have been abandoned, without any sign of recent maintenance! There are some large trees down, and the tread is quite brushy in places. However, enough people have visited so that the route is still obvious as far as Buffalo Rock , a looming basalt prominence about 2½ miles in. If there continues to be no proper maintenance, conditions will only get worse, so be prepared for an adventure, and bring at least a pruning saw!
