Bells Mountain North Slope Loop Hike

Overview

A network of mountain bike trails peels off of the paved East Fork Lewis River Trail, an old rail bed, and takes you somewhat higher up the slopes of Bells Mountain (although nowhere near the summit - see the Sword Fern Way Loop Hike ) in the Yacolt Burn State Forest. The trails may see a little more use on weekends, but generally they are quiet, and the hiker will be crossing burbling creeks in secondary forest and dense Douglas-fir plantations. The trails conduct you away from the more crowded environs of the Moulton Falls Trail, which you can use for a quick return. All the junctions on the mountain bike trails are unmarked, so pay attention to the directions.
