Bear Creek Guard Station Hike

Overview

The Bear Creek Trail runs 19 miles from the Bear Creek Trailhead to the trail’s junction with the Bowman Trail above the North Minam River. Several trails branch off, allowing for a number of backpacking options. However, an easy day hike takes visitors up the creek as far as the Bear Creek Guard Station , an early 1900s ranger cabin. The creek carves a narrow gorge at its lower end, so at times you’re up on 100-foot cliffs, while at others you’re down at water level in a dense coniferous forest. This hike is an excellent outing for families, on rainy days, or early or late in the year.
