Vine Maple Loop Hike

Overview

A short loop takes you east from the day use area under some of the biggest trees in the Shellburg Falls State Recreation Area. The 2020 Beachie Creek Fire scorched the route, but the biggest Douglas-firs survived. A lush understory has grown back since the fire although vine maples are less in evidence than big-leaf maples, which went up in flames but are now coming back from their lignotubers. One leg or the other of this loop can be used to finish the Shellburg Creek Loop Hike or the August Mountain Loop Hike . The Vine Maple Loop is also a good, short adjunct to the Shellburg Falls Hike .
