Tonquin Villebois Loop Hike

Overview

Metro’s concept for the Tonquin Trail, a route that follows features relating to the great Ice Age floods of 15,000 years ago, envisions off-street connections between the cities of Wilsonville, Sherwood, and Tualatin. This first section of the trail is in Wilsonville, beginning at the Graham Oaks Nature Park , and you can make a loop through the Villebois neighborhood, partly in small parks and partly on sidewalks, that takes you back to Graham Oaks. The Villebois neighborhood was once the site of the Dammasch State Hospital, a psychiatric institution in the style of traditional “insane asylums”, which was closed down in 1995. The site was then favored to host the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, a women’s prison, until local residents and politicians found an alternate site not far away. Villebois has become a modern planned housing development with parks and public facilities that will ultimately house 6,000 people.
