Metzler Park Loop Hike

Overview

Metzler Park is a Clackamas County park located on wide Clear Creek and named after Alice Metzler, a Portland school teacher. The developed part of the park includes campgrounds and large group picnic areas, which all close in the fall and winter. A suspension bridge takes you over Clear Creek to a loop trail that visits a lovely forested hillside and a swimming hole. In 2022-23, Trailkeepers of Oregon worked on some new trails here, one a connector between the swimming hole and the main loop; the other, a lollipop loop to the northern end of the park. The lower trails in the park, on both sides of Clear Creek, form a 20-stop nature trail that identifies native plant species (print out the brochure). The best time to visit is in the off-season, when there are no campers and salmon spawn in the creek.
