A short raised boardwalk takes you down across a fen that supports a large population of carnivorous Darlingtonia pitcher plants. There are numerous Siskiyou-endemic plants here due to the ancient, poor soils, the remnants of an ancient sea floor, which only allow a sparse cover of Jeffrey pine. Reddish peridotite predominates, but serpentine is also present. Interpretive signs help you identify some of the plants and explain the geology. Needless to say, the best time to appreciate this special place is the spring.
