Chinook Landing to Sundial Beach Hike

Overview

A paved section of the Portland Metro Area’s 40-mile Loop runs between industrial facilities, power facilities and a substation, restored wetlands, and a cottonwood bottomland. Much of the area was part of a Superfund cleanup site. The most recent sections of this paved trail, now called the Ch’ak Ch’ak Trail, were opened in October 2024. (Ch’ak ch’ak is Chinook Wawa for ‘bald eagle,’ one or two of which you are likely to see on this walk.) The terminus of the walk is at Sundial Beach , near the Sandy River Delta , where you can stroll the shore of the wide Columbia in isolation.
