Ankeny Hill Loop Hike

Overview

The brainchild of Salem businessman Mark Gehlar, the new nature center in the Ankeny National Wildlife Refuge opened in 2022. From the center, you can walk a short loop on an accessible path to Peregrine Marsh and the even newer David Marshall Outdoor Classroom. In spring especially, the meadows through which the trail passes host a colorful display of native wildflowers, part of the restoration work on this slope of former farmland.
