Thimble Trail

Overview

Though Thimble Trail appears as a trail on maps, it is actually a sandy one-lane vehicle track. 4WD is highly recommended as 2WD cars could easily get stuck in soft sand. It's fine for hiking though as traffic is practically non-existent. This trail is the shortest way to the Borrego Badlands from S22 at about two miles to the edge of the Badlands. <br><br>Continue along Short Wash and the Vista del Malpais Spur to reach the Mal Pais Vista for a 3.5 mile one way journey. Another option is to drive in about 1.2 miles and start the Font's Point Route features hiking at its most northern point. This requires much less off road driving than starting at Font's Point.
